Operatives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) have confirmed the arrest of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Bukedea as well as the District Police Commander (DPC).
SH-ACU said the arrests followed intensive investigations into reported criminal activities in the recent LC V Chairperson byelections in Bukedea District.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit accuses RDC Wilberforce Tukei and DPC SP Charles Okoto of failing to act on, among others, rampant acts of intimidation and assault of some candidates, polling agents, journalists and voters.
Brig Gen Henry Isoke’s SH-ACU noted that these incidents occurred before, during and after elections.
“As Head of the District Security Committee, the RDC plays oversight role of Govt activities/programs in the District. He also, coordinates all other Government departmental Heads and engages on any emergency that has come up,” added State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) in a statement.
“In Election time, RDC coordinates and ensures smooth transition in election time which did not happen in this case.”
The Anti-Graft unit also confirmed that so far, eight people have been arrested in connection with the Bukedea byelection chaos.
These are: RDC Bukedea Wilberforce Tukei, SP Charles Okoto, D/ASP Alex Eguloiti, PC Onesmus Akankwasa, PC Simon Peter Oriokot, PC Difas Kamakoin, PC Born Naibei and Councillor Dan Malinga.
The arrests followed Museveni’s orders for an investigation into the Bukedea District chaos.
Although he seems to have now turned against his NRM men and women, it should be remembered that Gen Museveni has previously accused the opposition led by Bobi Wine of stealing his votes in Buganda. (See Details Here).
