Speaker Anita Among-Moses Magogo ‘Tormentor’ Reportedly ‘Fired’

Days after he cancelled the registration of the customary marriage between Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among and Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) president Moses Magogo Hassim, Geoffrey Rwakabale has reportedly lost his job as the Town Clerk of the Makindye Division Urban Council.

Last month, Rwakabale left Speaker Among, also the Bukedea District Woman MP, and Magogo, the Budiope East MP, shocked when he cancelled the registration of their customary marriage within less than a day after the formalization of the same union.

Rwakabale even claimed that he had been under duress before signing on the certificate that confirmed the registration of the marriage of one of the country’s most powerful couples.

It should be noted that as Speaker of the 11th Parliament, Among is the head of the legislative arm of government, and the third most powerful person in Uganda, only formally third to President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and his Vice President Jessica Alupo.

Speaker Among’s husband Magogo is not only the Fufa president and Budiope East MP but also the Chairperson of Parliament of Parliament’s Committee on Information, Communication Technology (ICT) and National Guidance.

But the fearless and reportedly well-connected Rwakabale boldly cancelled the registration of the customary marriage of this couple.

While the cancellation of the registration of this marriage had been kept a secret for about one month, last week it emerged that the Speaker Anita Among-Moses Magogo marriage had ended in tears. (Read Story Here).

But Speaker Among and Magogo can now breathe after the Registrar of Marriages at the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) gave a favourable ‘ruling’ on the thorny issue of whether the customary marriage was valid or invalid. (Read Story Here).

However, it has now emerged that Rwakabale has since been kicked out of his town clerk office. According to The Daily Monitor, Rwakabale has since been sent to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

It was not yet clear what position Rwakabale would be occupying at KCCA.

It is also unclear if his transfer had anything to do with his decision to nullify the registration of customary marriage between Speaker Among and Moses Magogo.

Rwakabale, the same man who cancelled the Among-Magogo marriage registration, has claimed that his life is in danger and that he has received death threats. (Read Story Here).
