Speaker Anita Among-Magogo Marriage Registration Reportedly Ends in Tears (See Why)

Efforts by Speaker of Parliament and Bukedea District Woman MP Anita Among and Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) president and Budiope East law maker Moses Hassim Magogo to register their marriage seem to have crumbled as soon as the registration of the union was approved, reports suggest. 

According to documents making rounds on social media, the registration of marriage between Magogo and Among was cancelled within less than 24 hours after formalization by the Town Clerk of Makindye Division Urban Council.

The marriage between Magogo and Among was registered by the Makindye Division Urban Council on August 15.

According to a document shared online, on August 16, Geoffrey Rwakabale, the Town Clerk of Makindye Division Urban Council wrote to the Registrar of Marriages for Kampala district “[RESCINDING] AND WITHDRAWING OF REGISTRATION OF THE CUSTOMARY MARRIAGE OF MAGOGO MOSES HASSIM AND AMONG ANITA ANNET.’

The letter was reportedly received by Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) on the same date.

In the letter, Rwakabale reminds the Registrar of Marriages of his earlier letter dated August 15 under Reference Number MKD/KCCA/1308/06 informing him of the “glaring omissions and errors” in the registration of the marriage between Magogo and Anita Among “as a consequence of duress while processing this matter.”

“The purpose of this communication therefore is to [rescind] and withdraw the registration and to inform you that I have formally deleted the couple from the Division Customary Marriage Register,” concluded Rwakabale.

Neither Among nor Magogo had come out to dispute the documents making rounds on social media.
