VIDEO: Speak Truth to Power Because Our Rewards Are in Heaven — Helen Nakimuli’s Last Message to Religious Leaders

Kampala, UgandaTributes continue to pour in following the death of Helen Nakimuli, with many reflecting on what is now seen as one of her final powerful public messages delivered just days before her passing on Sunday. Helen Nakimuli’s last message to religious leaders was powerful: speak truth to power because our rewards are in heaven.

Nakimuli’s remarks came on April 13 during a church service at the Orthodox Church in Namungoona to mark the 71st birthday of Buganda’s monarch, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. The event, attended by religious leaders and dignitaries, has since taken on added significance as one of her last public appearances.

In her address, the late legislator urged religious leaders to find the courage to speak out against human rights violations and societal injustices. She warned that Uganda risks going astray if those entrusted with moral authority continue to remain silent.

Nakimuli pointed out that fear and the pursuit of personal gain—such as expectations of rewards or favors from those in power—were contributing to the reluctance of some leaders to address pressing national concerns. She called on them to rise above such considerations and stand firmly for truth, emphasizing that the real reward for doing what is right lies beyond this life.

Her message, now viewed by many as part of her lasting legacy, underscored the importance of integrity, accountability, and moral responsibility in leadership.

Nakimuli also used the platform to question disparities in the justice system. She contrasted the handling of the case involving Christopher Okello Onyum with the treatment of supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP). According to her, while the daycare case appeared to be progressing through due legal channels, many opposition supporters were facing what she described as politically driven and unfounded charges.

As news of her death continues to shock the nation, Nakimuli’s final public words have resonated deeply with many Ugandans, sparking renewed conversations about justice, leadership, and the role of religious institutions in shaping the country’s moral direction.

Her call to “speak truth to power” now stands as a poignant reminder of the values she championed until her final days.

It has been revealed that Nakimuli drove herself to hospital for a minor surgery but died during the operation, as reported Here.
