The Ministry of Education has announced the dates for the Senior Five selection exercise and the start of the first term.
The announcement, made by minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni, was made after the release of the 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination results at State House Nakasero in the capital Kampala on Friday, 13 February 2026.
Minister Janet Museveni said UCE 2025 results “paint a very encouraging picture,” noting that “the percentage of learners reaching defined levels of competencies has improved compared to 2024.”
“I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am to God today for allowing me to be part of Uganda’s generation that is striving and driving a revolution in our homeland’s education system,” said Ms Museveni.
“I have no doubt that as more of our children go through this competence-based education system, they will become wholly liberated and so shall Uganda.”
This was the second cohort siting UCE under the new lower secondary curriculum. Those who passed, over 99 per cent, will head to A-level or other institutions.
According to Ms Museveni, the selection exercise will happen next week to determine to which secondary schools the students will join to pursue studies in Senior Five.
Term One for Senior Five class of 2026 will start early next month, according to the minister of education and sports, also first lady.
“The selection exercise for Senior Five shall run from February 18th to February 19th, 2026,” Janet Museveni announced.
“First term for Senior Five shall commence on March 5th, 2026.”
