SAD! Three People Killed after Building Collapses

Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) has confirmed the death of three people after a building collapsed in the Kampala Metropolitan Area on Friday. 

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the KMP deputy spokesperson, the storied building which collapsed at about 8am of May 06 happened in the Ndejje Milimu area. Scores of people are said to have been trapped in the collapsed building.

ASP Owoyesigyire has confirmed that four people have been retrieved from the  rubble of the collapsed building alive, but with serious injuries, and were rushed to different hospitals for first aid and treatment.

The KMP publicist has also confirmed that bodies of three people who were killed in the collapsed building have been recovered. Owoyesigyire said the three bodies would be conveyed to the City Mortuary at Mulago for postmortem examination.

Meanwhile, rescue efforts are still ongoing to see if recover more people, dead or alive, since the number of people still trapped in the rubble remains unknown.

Officers from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services continue to work with their counterparts from Katwe Police to undertake rescue efforts.

Cases of collapsed buildings remain of concern in the Kampala Metropolitan Area and major towns and cities. A number of buildings are established without approved plans while supervision of construction sites remains minimal.
