Oboth Oboth and Tayebwa Get NRA-Like Numbers as Muhoozi Assigns More Patriotic Numbers to Allies

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), the political movement led by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has expanded its growing list of officially recognised members by assigning Patriotic Officer (PO) numbers to another group of senior government officials, including high-ranking parliamentary leaders and Cabinet ministers.

Among the latest recipients are Speaker of Parliament Jacob Marksons Oboth Oboth, who has been assigned PO 059, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa (PO 060), and Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Kiryowa Kiwanuka (PO 061).

The numbering system, which has increasingly become a symbol of recognition within PLU, mirrors the military-style traditions associated with Uganda’s National Resistance Army (NRA), with members receiving sequential numbers in acknowledgement of their contribution to the organisation.

The latest appointments were announced on Saturday by PLU Secretary General Fadil Twalla through his official X account, where he said the awards were personally approved by the movement’s chairman, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Twalla wrote: “Fellow Patriots and members of the Patriotic League of Uganda, our Chairman General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has awarded the following patriots with numbers as recognition for their efforts towards the growth of PLU and for upholding the organisation’s principles.”

The announcement places some of Uganda’s most senior political figures among a growing network of officials who have publicly associated themselves with the movement, which has steadily expanded its influence across government and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Beyond the parliamentary leadership, several Cabinet ministers also received Patriotic Officer numbers.
State Minister for Health (General Duties) Anifa Bangirana Kawooya was assigned PO 062, followed by State Minister for Health (Primary Health Care) Dr Charles Ayume with PO 063.

State Minister for Energy Phiona Nyamutooro received PO 064.

The latest list also includes State Minister for Northern Uganda Beatrice Akello Akori (PO 065), State Minister for Public Service Lydia Wanyoto Mutende (PO 066), Paul Komol Lotte (PO 067), Kiryandongo District Woman MP Jovia Katusiime (PO 068), Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua (PO 069), and Thomas Lomuria Abong (PO 070).

PLU has in recent years evolved from what was initially presented as a civic mobilisation platform into an influential political organisation whose activities frequently attract national attention. The movement has organised countrywide tours, youth mobilisation campaigns and community programmes while drawing support from senior military officers, Members of Parliament, ministers and local government leaders.

The issuance of Patriotic Officer numbers has become one of the organisation’s defining traditions, with recipients often celebrating the recognition publicly on social media as a sign of loyalty to the movement and its leadership.

Saturday’s announcement further underscores PLU’s continued expansion and the increasing prominence of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s political network, as more influential figures within government receive formal recognition for supporting what the organisation describes as its principles and growth.

It should be remembered that Muhoozi is using PLU to influence politics, with his latest move being a plan to remove Joel Ssenyonyi from his position as Leader of Opposition in Parliament by changing the voting system, as reported Here and There.

Meanwhile, a popular prophet has warned that there could be a plot to attempt to assassinate Muhoozi even as his father plans to reportedly hand over power to him, and as there are reportedly plans to change the constitution to suit Museveni’s wishes of handing power to his son. Muhoozi has previously hinted on Salim Saleh being the one to take over from Museveni as president. (See Details Here and There).
