Reject Museveni, his money and ministerial positions: Bobi Wine warns NUP MPs against betraying ‘struggle’

National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has warned his party’s recently elected MPs against accepting President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s money, and ministerial appointments to betray the ‘struggle.’

Bobi Wine spoke to the 61 MPs, largely from his Buganda sub-region, at his home in Magere, Wakiso District, on January 26.

He had been under house arrest for 10 days since the January 14 election that he lost to Museveni.

Bobi Wine cautioned the MPs against crossing to Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.

Previously, opposition MPs have taken up roles in Museveni’s government.

They include Beatrice Anywar, formerly of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC); Beti Kamya, the ex-leader of the Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA); Nakiwala Kiyingi, formerly of Democratic Party (DP); Betty Amongi of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), among others.

Aware of this, Bobi Wine sought to urge his NUP MPs to rise above personal interests.

“The regime is going to give you money. You must have heard Museveni saying that he is going to finish our group. He is going to give you a ministerial position and if you refuse, they will intimidate and arrest you. But please comrades, do not disappoint me, do not betray our people,” Bobi Wine said.

“We have a duty as a generation and you are the commanders. People chose you because they saw hope in you.”
