Five MPs officially cross to Bobi Wine’s NUP party

MPs John Baptist Nambeshe (Manjiya County), David Kalwanga (Busujju), Latif Sebaggala (Kawempe North), Patrick Oshabe Nsamba (Kassanda North) and Francis Zaake (Mityana Municipality) have officially joined Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) party.

Two of these MPs, Nambeshe and Oshabe, have left the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party of President Yoweri Museveni, while the rest, Sebaggala Kalwanga and Zaake, were independents.

Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the Kyadondo East MP, welcomed his colleagues to his party at the NUP and People Power pressure group office in Kamwokya Kampala on August 03.

Bobi Wine recently acquired NUP from Moses Nkonge Kibalama and is its official presidential flag bearer for the 2021 election.

Zaake has been a close ally of Bobi Wine while Nambeshe recently refused to apologize to Museveni and other NRM top leaders for voting against the controversial age limit removal clause.

His fellow rebel MPs such as Gaffa Mbwatekamwa (Kasambya) begged for Museveni’s forgiveness and have since returned to the president’s and ruling party’s fold.

Mbwatekamwa, who Bobi Wine had appointed Ankole People Power coordinator, even ditched the pressure group, and so was Barnabas Tinkasiimire (Buyaga West), who was People Power coordinator for Bunyoro region.

As the five MPs, who have been associating with People Power since 2017, officially crossed to NUP, they pledged their support to the party, and its principal and fellow MP Bobi Wine.

“I make my commitment to NUP. I promise to contribute to the growth of the party. We have aggressively supported people power movement and hope that with the introduction of the party, we shall win the next election,” Nambeshe said.

Others who joined alongside the five MPs were city division mayors: Emmanuel Serunjoji (Kawempe Division), Ali Mulyanyama (Makindye Division) and Ronald Nsubuga Balimwezo (Nakawa division).
