PROFILE: Interesting Facts About Allen Kagina, New TVET Council Boss

Allen Kagina is has assumed office as the chairperson of the TVET Council. Here is a quick look at the interesting facts in the profile of Allen Kagina, the woman who will be steering the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council:

Allen Kagina was born in 1961. She is aged about 64. She was born in Rukungiri District of Western Uganda to Hezron and Catherine Kakuyo.

Her siblings include Makerere University Council Chairperson Lorna Magara, Jocelyn Kyobutungi Rugunda, wife to Uganda’s former Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda; and Caleb Kakuyo, who formerly worked with National Housing and Construction Corporation.

She went to Gayaza High School before proceeding to Makerere University from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology.

In 1985, she was a teaching assistant at Makerere University before being hired to work in the Office of the President in the early years of President Yoweri Museveni’s government.

Kagina would later earn a Master of Public Administration from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom.

In 1992, started working at the tax collector Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) a senior principal revenue officer. In 2000, Kagina became a deputy commissioner for customs at URA.

She was appointed the Commissioner General in 2004.

In 2015, she was appointed the Executive Director of the Uganda National Roads Authority (Unra).

In October 2015, Kagina graduated with a Master of Arts in Organisational Leadership and Management from Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono.

Kagina and her husband Paul Kagina have three children – Dan, Michelle and Mark – together.

She is a staunch born-again Christian, and a member of the Balokole, a fast growing Ugandan religion of evangelicals and Pentecostals. (See Details Here and There).
