Police Speaks on Katwe DPC Death Reports Days after Alien Skin Accused Him of Targeting Musicians

Police has cleared the air on reports that its Division Police Commander (DPC) for Katwe, Superintendent of Police David Kamugira, had died.

Claims that SP Kamugira had died along Salaama Road had been shared on social media. Even a video had circulated on TikTok to prove the claims.

But Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) has dismissed the claims and has started investigating the source of the video and the intentions behind it.

KMP deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire suspects that the originators of the video sought to “undermine his work.” Owoyesigyire hinted on musicians involved in crime.

“It is clear that the creators of this video have intentions known only to themselves. However, it appears their aim is to undermine the work of the DPC, particularly his efforts in combating gang-related crimes in the area, crimes that have in some instances been linked to individuals who are musicians,” said Owoyesigyire.

The claims came after controversial singer Patrick Mulwana aka Alien Skin complained about Kamugira’s conduct.

Alien Skin said that Kamugira seemed to be targeting musicians and that he appeared to be misusing his authority and flouting policing standards.

“To The IGP Of Uganda Police. I am writing to express my concern about the conduct of the District Police Commander (DPC) of Katwe. It has come to my attention that instead of focusing on apprehending criminals, the DPC appears to target artists. This raises serious concerns about possible misuse of authority,” wrote Alien Skin.

“There are concerns about the way he handles his duties, which seem to be inconsistent with the standards expected of our police force. The DPC’s behaviors is causing problems and is not appropriate.”

Owoyesigyire dismissed the allegations, adding that they would not stand in Kamugira’s way of doing his work.

“We would like to categorically state that this information is false, misleading, and malicious. Superintendent Kamugira is alive, safe, and continues to diligently perform his duties in Katwe Division,” noted.

“We wish to assure the public that these baseless claims will not deter the DPC or the Uganda Police Force from executing their mandate. Investigations are underway to identify those behind this video, and they will be held accountable in accordance with the law.”

It should be remembered that some of Alien Skin’s gang has been engaged in some unlawful acts, including raiding Bobi Wine’s NUP headquarters at night, as reported Here.
