IBANDA, UGANDA: A police constable murdered in cold blood by mob action in Ibanda District in Western Uganda.
Police in Ibanda District say they are now investigating a case of murder by mob action of one of their own.
PC Suleiman Chemonges (No.75290), a male adult aged 28 years was until his death attached to Bisheshe Police Station in Ibanda District.
It is alleged that on Sunday April 06, 2025 PC Chemonges was deployed to guard at the funeral of Lazarus Kahangire, a former inmate who died from Nyabuhikye Government Prison.
Kahangire was a remandee on a case of attempted murder vide IBD CRB 849/2023 which originated from a land case between the family of one Vicent Mbabazi and his brothers.
According to the police spokesperson Rwizi Region, SP Samson Kasasira, PC Chemonges arrived at the funeral before his colleague.
Upon arrival, SP Kasasira further noted, Chemonges was attacked and murdered by a mob said to have been included the relatives of Kahangire.
He added that Kahangire’s relatives have been claiming that police was the one responsible for the death of their family member while he was on remand at Nyabuhikye Government Prison.
Police officers rushed to the scene of crime and recovered an SMG riffle no UG POL 563619069 with 16 rounds.

The body of the deceased was conveyed to Ruhoko morgue pending a post-mortem examination. Kasasira said inquiry into the matter are still ongoing.
