Parliament building to be disinfected after five staff tested positive for Covid19

Parliament of Uganda building is set to be disinfected after at least five staff member tested positive for Covid19.

In a statement, Helen Kawesa, the assistant director of communication and public affairs at parliament, said the five cases were confirmed from samples taken during random testing for Covid19 that happened last week.

“They are now undergoing treatment in the recommended health facilities,” Kawesa added.

She also revealed that disinfection of Parliament will start on September 05.

Meanwhile, Parliament’s administration has decided to immediately reduce the number of staff physically coming to work.

“All the other staff who were in contact with the affected have been identified and advised to stay home in self-quarantine,” Kawesa said.

“If they develop any signs and symptoms, they have been advised to contact the Parliament doctor immediately who will then liaise with the Ministry of Health to have them tested.”

On September 04, Uganda’s death toll rose to 35 after two more people, both females from Kampala, aged 57 and 69.

The Ministry of Health also confirmed 65 new Covid19 cases from 4,540 samples tested on September 03.

Of these, 60 were from contacts and cases: 44 from Kampala, six from Gulu, three from Buikwe, two from Mukono, while Busia, Wakiso, Nwoya, Nakapiripiriti and Luwero had one each.

The others were two health workers from Nwoya (01) and Wakiso (01), and three from truck drivers who arrived via Mpondwe, Busia and Vurra.
