Museveni issues orders to resolve Mwesigye-Kajwengye Nyabushozi dispute, directs Ochola to arrest vote rigging ring leaders

President Yoweri Museveni has directed police chief IGP Martins Okoth Ochola and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo to institute criminal proceedings against those involved in Nyabushozi NRM primary rigging.

Incumbent Col Fred Mwesigye won the Nyabushozi County (in Museveni’s home district of Kiruhura) National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary election.

Mwesigye polled 36,047 against Wilson Kajwengye who garnered 12,692 votes, according to official results.

But Kajwengye disputed the results and declared himself the NRM parliamentary flag bearer for the 2021 election.

The dispute prompted Museveni to dispatch a team of security personnel to audit the results.

The Museveni audit team has now released its findings which show that Mwesigye had beaten Kajwengye by a small margin of 727 votes.

The team found no issues with results from 116 of the 200 polling stations in the constituency while those of 56 stations had been tampered with “but were excavated by the field visits.”

Museveni has advised that the results from the 116 be added to those recovered in 56 stations, and then the Dr Tanga Odoi Electoral Commission (EC) can choose whether it is necessary to hold fresh polling in the remaining 28 polling stations  “that did not vote because of the fujo [chaos and confusion] caused by the corrupt-minded, anti-people elements.”

The NRM national chairman wants Dr Tanga Odoi to convince people in these 28 polling areas to vote again “so that the issue is democratically resolved.”

He has since ordered the IGP and DPP “to use the results of the audit to criminally prosecute all those, or at least the ring leaders of this massive anti-people but shallow forgery that attempts to usurp the sovereignty of the people.”
