Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential flagbearer Maj Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu has assured the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ugandans’ support if conducts the 2021 election processes with independence and integrity.
Muntu says only the EC’s independence will win them public support and confidence.
“You have to prove yourselves that you are independent and we back you up, the whole country will back you up,” said Muntu on July 30.
“I have absolutely no doubt that the whole country will back you up if you exercise your independence; if they are to throw you out, let them throw you out but let us know that you have stood your ground firmly.”
Muntu also called out the EC for looking on as ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) members flouted Covid19 guidelines, especially those restricting meetings and rallies.

Muntu reminded the EC of their responsibility in ensuring that the charged atmosphere doesn’t act as a catalyst to sink the country.
“The country is moving on a very slippery ground, as ANT we intend to be an instrument for stabilizing ourselves as we walk through that slippery ground,” he noted.
“We ask the Electoral Commission not to be an instrument of causing people to fall or the country to fall.”
He further criticized the EC for looking on as police seemed to target opposition politicians.
The former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leader further castigated the EC for delaying to clear its August 06 delegates conference.
It is at this conference that ANT expects to formally endorse Muntu as its 2021 presidential flag bearer, and also appoint a substantive national coordinator.

The former army commander told the clergy to speak against the unfairness in the electoral process.
“If you are paralyzed by fear, what kind of God do you represent here on earth? The God we worship says ‘Fear not for I am with you.”
Muntu also welcomed Arua Municipality MP Kassiano Wadri, Eng Frank Ndamureeba Mukunzi and Chris Charles Oyua to ANT.
