Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, Uganda’s long-serving president, has promoted his son to the rank of General, the highest in the national army, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), eliciting mixed reactions largely focusing on the Museveni succession plot.
The president and commander-in-chief of the armed forces elevated Maj Gen Kayanja Muhanga, who is currently commanding Operation Shujaa, to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him Commander of the UPDF Land Forces, replacing his son Muhoozi.
Now a full general — just like his father Museveni and his uncle Gen Caleb Akandwanaho aka Gen Salim Saleh — Muhoozi will keep his job as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, according to UPDF and Defence Ministry Spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye.
The news of Muhoozi’s ‘firing’ as Commander of UPDF Land Forces and promotion to the rank of general followed the first son’s tweet on his army’s capacity to capture Nairobi within just two weeks. (Read Story Here).
But it is the promotion of Muhoozi to a full general at the age of 48 that has set tongues wagging.
Supporters of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba have been congratulating him on his promotion — and ignoring his firing — saying his path to becoming the next Commander-in-Chief and President of the Republic of Kenya.
But his critics such as exiled writer Kakwenza Rukirabashaija have reacted with anger, writing unprintable statements they hoped would carry the weight of their disappointment.

Here, we have captured some of the reactions from Muhoozi’s favourite app Twitter, where wars are fought without guns but words, except in a few cases where those with guns go fo those with the mastery of words:

Why has Muhoozi Mseveni not been promoted as a king of Uganda by his murderer father Mseveni? The worst nepotism of all times. One might think it's a small Kenya which is run by tribal alliances or a forner Trump's White House https://t.co/43r1V8hcRl

A father promotes a son and some naively cheer! The lack of meritocracy under NRM government is the reason Uganda is stuck in the dustbin of impoverished and poorly governed nations.
