First son and chief of defence forces (CDF) of the UPDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba says he has forgiven former spymaster Gen David Sejusa (formerly Tinyefuuza). Gen Muhoozi also says a reunion meeting date has been set.
President Yoweri Museveni, the commander-in-chief (CiC) of armed forces, is expected at the reunion between his son and former bushwar comrade.
In April 2013, Gen David Sejusa, the former coordinator of intelligence services, sent tongues wagging when he alleged that he had learnt of a plot to eliminated senior government officials and UPDF officers opposed to a Muhoozi presidency where the first son would succeed his father Gen Yoweri Museveni.
Museveni has ruled Uganda since he took power following a five-year bush war that claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.
Gen Sejusa (then called Tinyefuuza) was part of that war. He would serve the Museveni government and military until his bitter fallout with now Uganda’s ruler of four decades.
Muhoozi would later say that Gen Sejusa’s talks of the Muhoozi Project were a blessing. “Some evil people coined this phrase [Muhoozi Project] to try and destroy us! But trust my generation to convert every curse into a blessing! Thank you Ugandans!” he previously wrote.
Yet years earlier in 2017, he had told state broadcaster UBC he was not considering joining politics.
“It is not something that I am considering, because I would say I have been busy with the military and it’s quite a demanding job,” said Muhoozi.
“That is why I have not had so many interviews, over the seven years that I have been commander of what we call this high-speed unit. Things are always happening. It is not something that I think of now. I don’t think of joining politics.”
Even his father Museveni had made it clear his son had his interests in the army.
“I have seen him through his entire life, but I haven’t spotted in him a single interest to run even for chairmanship in an LC 1 Council,” Museveni previously told reporters at State House Nakasero.
“His heart is solely in combat, its worthless wasting your space writing about this.”
But in recent years, Muhoozi expressed presidential interests, forming the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) as a political vehicle to further his interests.
Although his 2026 ambition was smartly paused by his father, Muhoozi seems to have his eyes set on 2031. (See Details Here and There).
Now, the first son and CDF has announced reconciliation with Gen Sejusa, the man who coined the Muhoozi Project.
“I have made peace in my heart with General Tinyefuza. After all the injury he heaped on me for many years, I forgive him,” wrote Muhoozi.
“I will meet him, under the supervision of the Commander-in-Chief in exactly 2 weeks!”
Gen Sejusa has previously fumed after being told he would soon salute Gen Muhoozi when he becomes president. (See Details Here and There).
