Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende has been arrested by security operatives after returning to the country.
Shamim Malende had spent months in Nairobi, Kenya, receiving treatment. She was welcomed by relatives, supporters and friends at Uganda’s main airport.
On arrival at the Entebbe International Airport, Malende addressed reporters. She then headed for Kampala in a procession that was shortly intercepted by police.
Officers then arrested Malende and detained her at the Katwe Police Station.
Several supporters had camped at MP Shamim Malende’s home in Kawempe Ttula where she was expected to make an address.
Shamim Malende is back to defend her parliamentary seat. She is expected to face stiff competition from fellow party member Zahrah Luyirika, the KCCA speaker.
Shamim Malende has been in and out of hospital in recent years. Some of her health challenges have originated from chaos in parliament and her work as a lawyer for the main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) led by Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
