A Ugandan mobile money agent has been shot dead and robbed by assailants who are yet to be identified.
The incident happened in Buikwe District at about 9pm on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
The deceased has been identified as Kifumba Mutebi, who was 30 years old, and was working as a mobile money agent at Ngogwe Trading Centre.
The amount of money the robbers stole from Kifumba Mutebi was not yet known.
Kifumba Mutebi had left his mobile money shop and was heading home when the robbers waylaid him.
The robbers are said have been armed with a gun and pangas.
It is said that Kifumba Mutebi had left his mobile money shop on a bodaboda but told the rider to drop him at a place near his home in Kibali Village.
That a few he had walked a short distance, robbers cornered him and demanded money.
It is said that Kifumba Mutebi made an attempt to fight off the attackers. In response, the robbers cut the mobile money agent’s hand and shot him in the chest.
The robbers got hold of the bag which contained the money, as well as the mobile phone and ran away with it.
Locals would later rush Kifumba Mutebi to Nkokonjeru Hospital but the doctors told them it was too late.
