The hearing has begun, in Rwanda, of Miss Rwanda 2022 Divine Nshuti Muheto following her arrest days ago.
On Thursday, October 31, 2024, the Kicukiro Primary Court began a pre-detention hearing for Miss Rwanda 2022 Divine Nshuti Muheto.
The Rwandan state prosecutors requested a jail term of nearly two years.
Miss Rwanda Divine Nshuti Muheto faces charges of drink driving, driving without a permit and fleeing the scene after causing an accident.
Prosecutors requested court to hand a one-year and eight-month jail term to Muheto.
The proposed jail term is broken down as follows: six months for drink-driving, two months for driving without a permit as well as one year for fleeing the scene after causing an accident.
Prosecution told court that Muheto set off to drive home at about midnight after drinking at the Atelier du Vin bar. Prosecution put Divine Nshuti Muheto’s blood alcohol level at 4.00, way above the legal limit of 0.8.
That intoxicated and not possessing requisite driving skills to be on the road, she would later cause an accident, hitting a tree and an electricity pole.
Prosecution also alleged that Divine Nshuti Muheto quickly fled the scene of the accident only to return to pick her mobile phones which she had allegedly forgotten in the car.
Unlucky for her, state prosecutors further noted, police had reached the scene, and that she told them she was not the one behind the steering wheel.
Miss Rwanda 2022 Divine Nshuti Muheto pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, driving without a license, and causing the accident. But the beauty queen denied the charge of fleeing the scene of the accident.
