Minister Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi Burial Date Announced as Parliament Releases Funeral Program

Parliament of Uganda has released the funeral program for Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, the Minister of State for Defence, and Kisoro District Woman MP. The program includes activities that will precede Minister Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi burial date.

Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi died on Saturday, September 07, 2024, in Kampala. Speaker Anita Among says a program for her funeral has been drawn after consultation with all stakeholders.

“Following consultations with the Ministry of defense and Veteran Affairs, the family, the national organizing- committee and other stakeholders, we have agreed on the programme for the sendoff of our friend and sister Hon Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke,” she announced in the evening of September 07.

According to the program, the body of Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi  will arrive at her home in Nsangi, Wakiso District on Monday, September 09, 2024 at 3PM. Thereafter, a church service will start at 5PM.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, there will be a church service at All Saints Cathedral, Kampala at 8 am. The body will then be transported to Parliament for a special sitting at noon before it is returned to the A plus funeral home.

On Wednesday, September 11, 2024: the body of the late minister Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi will depart for Nyakabingo in Kisoro District at 9am. A council session will begin at 2PM, followed by a church service from 4-6 PM and an overnight vigil.

Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi will be laid to rest on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Months ago, Sarah Mateke was sent to the defence ministry and was replaced by Balaam Barugahara in her previous docket as state minister for children and youth affairs in a March 2024 cabinet reshuffle. (See Details Here and There).
