The lists showing the names of students admitted on government sponsorship under the national merit scheme for public universities have been released.
Every year, Government of Uganda sponsors about 4,000 students to pursue undergraduate and diploma courses or academic programs at public universities scattered across the country.
These scholarships are channeled through schemes, the biggest being the national merit scheme which largely depends on academic performance in A-level examinations.
Other schemes include quota system where each district is given a number of slots, the mature age entry, spirts scheme and disability scheme.
For all these government sponsorship schemes, Makerere University, the country’s oldest and largest higher learning institution, normally takes the lion’s share.
Apart from Makerere University and its affiliate Makerere University Business School (MUBS), other public universities include: Lira University, Gulu University, Kyambogo University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Muni University, Busitema University, Kabale University, Soroti University and Mountains of the Moon University.
For all these universities — save for Mountains of the Moon — The Pearl Times has gained access to the government sponsorship admission lists for national merit, and now shares them below:
