At least 71 out of about 110 opposition MPs have confirmed that they have not received Shs100m bribe that was given to each MP.
The money is said to have been from a supplementary budget that went to a classified vote that could be used — or misused — by the recipient.
The money was meant to appreciate MPs who voted in favour of the controversial coffee bill and to grease their hands into voting in favour of another upcoming controversial and unpopular plot for the Museveni state to try civilians in army courts.
Days after it emerged that money had exchanged hands at parliament, then acting leader of opposition in parliament (LoP) Muwanga Kivumbi summoned all opposition MPs and they resolved that those who might have picked the money should return it.
They also resolved to append their signatures to a resolution denouncing the bribe and confirming that they did not partake of ‘sin money.’
Days since that resolution was made, only 71 MPs of the 110 that belong to the opposition have signed the resolution confirming that they have not touched the money.
They are drawn from parties the main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), the Democratic Party (DP), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Justice Forum (Jeema).
There are also a few independents who have signed the opposition resolution denouncing the Easter cash bonanza.
It is believed that the opposition legislators who received the money could be among those 39 who are yet to sign the resolution.
Majority of the MPs who received the money are said to be from President Yoweri Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), which also has the majority in parliament.

It should be remembered that deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa dismissed the Easter cash bonanza on the floor of parliament as mere street talk, only for a video to appear online showing MPs flocking parliament with bags at night going to collect the money. (Watch the video and see details Here and There).
Museveni also came out and blasted those criticizing NRM MPs for the taking the Shs100m bribe each, prompting Muwanga Kivumbi to fire back, asking the president if he has no shame left in him, as reported Here and There.
