Don't You Have Any Shame Left? Muwanga Kivumbi Fires Back at Museveni for 'Defending' MPs’ Shs100m Bribes

Muwanga Kivumbi and Museveni

In his statement on MPs’ Shs100m bribes, President Yoweri Museveni seemed to defend parliament’s Easter cash bonanza. The president also attacked the Muwanga Kivumbi group of opposition whom he said were expending their energy on exposing the bribery scandal. Now, Muwanga Kivumbi has responded.

As the acting leader of opposition in parliament at the time the MPs’ Shs100m bribes scandal happened, Muwanga Kivumbi convened a caucus of opposition MPs. The legislators agreed to sign a formal declaration denouncing the cash award and confirming that they did not receive the money.

The opposition caucus resolved that any MP who could have received the money should return it and shame the devil. They termed it ‘sin money’ given the manner in which it was given and the purpose for which it was awarded.

As a video shared by this publication has indicated, MPs were captured flocking Parliament building at night with bags as they reportedly went to collect their Shs100m shares. (Watch video Here).

On the justification for the money it said that the Shs100m for each MP was meant to appreciate legislators for passing the controversial coffee bill.

Others indicated that it is meant to convince the MPs to vote in support of the upcoming UPDF Amendment Bill 2025 meant to legalize the trial of civilians in army courts.

“Dear Gen. Museveni, I have seen your missive justifying the 100m cash bonanza and you seem to suggest that the money is being ‘awarded’ to your combatant comrades with whom you fought the said ‘17 year old FRONASA-NRA war,’” Muwanga Kivumbi responded to Museveni’s statement on the matter.

In his missive, Museveni also blasted the Kivumbi group of MPs for failing to concentrate foreign funding for projects like promotion of gay rights.

Kivumbi told the president not to complain about funding freezes by the West if he is clearly convinced about the popular decision on the moral cause that informed the enactment of the anti-gay law.

“And as a pan Africanist like you’ve postured all your political life, why do you sound hurt by the US government decision to impose sanctions in Uganda in retribution for the anti homose*uality bill?” wondered Kivumbi, the Butambala County MP.

“I thought you would not cry of our exclusion from AGOA if it’s the price tag to defend our ‘morality’ as a nation! I thought you would be proud that aid was suspended for what you termed as a ‘moral cause.’”

Muwanga Kivumbi wondered why Museveni had forgotten to prioritize the majority of Ugandans instead choosing to only serve a few people.

“Don’t you have some shame left in you to see that the country’s priorities are being ignored in favour of appeasing just a handful of individuals who back your self centered agenda?” Muwanga Kivumbi asked the president.

“Lastly, the Bazzukulu you exclude from your priorities and rendered them economically worthless are at pain when they see you diverting money to a small group of individuals. They want your regime out of power as early as yesterday so that they can rebuild a stable and prosperous country for all.”

Meanwhile, a striking comparison is being made regarding the cash bonanza: Shs100m for each MP’s stomach Vs Shs100m for the whole parish under PDM. (Read it Here).
