Why would MPs be flocking Parliament at night? This is the main question that has emerged after a shocking video of Ugandan MPs flocking parliament at night to allegedly pick Shs100m each, appeared online.
The video, shared by members of the Joel Ssenyonyi-led opposition, some of whom did not pick the money, shows men and women entering Parliament building at night.
Under the cover of darkness, some of them are seen carrying bags – most probably the ones they hoped to use to carry the Shs100m share.
The video is said to have been captured Monday night, the first time the MPs started picking the money, according to reports.
The picking of the Shs100m for each MP is said to have continued into Tuesday, with the men and women supposed to represent their constituents, covertly picking large sums for themselves.
Interestingly, reports suggest that the money was hewed off a supplementary budget that was passed recently.
While the identities of the men and women captured by the video were not so clear, the video of Ugandan MPs flocking parliament at night to allegedly pick Shs100m each is first step in the efforts for the opposition and activists to present evidence against this theft.
It is said that the money was given out as a ‘thank you’ to MPs for passing the controversial coffee bill.
Other reports suggested that the money was meant to pave the way for a smooth sailing and passing of another controversial bill meant to make it create a legal provision to try civilians in the military courts.

In the wake of the MPs bribery scandal, parliament has spoken out on the claims. Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has also broken silence on the money. (See Details Here and There).
