The Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) Commissioner General, Johnson Byabashaija, has promoted nearly 5,000 prisons officers. The names of the 4,996 prisons officers promoted by Commissioner General Byabashaija to different ranks is out.
The promotions range from the rank of principal officer I (PO I) to warder or wardress. The 36th Prisons Council approved the promotions before they were made public.
According to the breakdown of promotions of junior officers, 139 officers were promoted to the rank of Principal Officer I (PO I), 196 officers were promoted to Principal Officer II (PO II) rank, 201 were promoted to Chief Warder/Wardress I while 204 officers were promoted to Chief Warder/Wardress II.
Up to 432 officers were promoted to the rank of Chief Warder/Wardress III, 1,512 were promoted to Sergeant Warder/Wardress rank, 633 officers were promoted to Corporal Warder/Wardress while 1,679 officers were promoted to Lance Corporal Warder/Wardress.
Noting that “the promotions were based on available vacancies in accordance with the Prisons structure,” and promising that “junior Officers who were not promoted in this cycle will be considered in the next round,” Commissioner General Byabashaija commended “all junior officers on their well-earned promotions, noting that their dedication, discipline and commitment to duty have been duly recognized.”
“He encouraged them to maintain high standards of professionalism and to continue striving for excellence in the execution of their duties,” Uganda Prisons Service said in a statement.
