LIST: See Best Performing UACE 2023 Schools from Districts of Western Uganda's Ankole, Kigezi, Tooro & Bunyoro Sub-regions

St Andrea Kaahwa's College is among the top best performing schools in UACE 2023 in Western Uganda and in the whole country

Following last week’s release of results from last year’s Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations, The Pearl Times presents the list of Best Performing UACE 2023 Schools in Western Uganda. The list includes top schools from each of the districts in the subregions of Ankole, Kigezi, Tooro & Bunyoro.

There are two criteria on whose basis The Pearl Times rankings desk has come up with the list of best performing UACE 2023 schools in Western Uganda: average score (of points) and the number of candidates that sat at a Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) centre or school.

The average score is derived from the total of all the points scored by all candidates in a centre or school divided by the number of all candidates that sat UACE in 2023.

The maximum points a candidate can score at A-level (in UACE) is 20. The scale of scores is 00-20 points.

Let’s say a school had 10 candidates who scored 10 points each, the average score for that school is (19+20+15+11+10+13+07+17+09+18) divided by 10 candidates; 139/10=13.9. The average score is 13.9.

The second criterion is the number of candidates. The Pearl Times has taken a decision to consider the number of candidates vis-à-vis the average score.

The Pearl Times has categorized the average scores into three: 00-09 points, 10-15 points, and 16-20 points. In each of the categories, a school or Uneb centre with the highest number of candidates ranks higher than others.

Imagine School X with an average score of 13 points but 16 candidates and School Y with 11 points but 102 candidates. Schools X and Y in the same category of 10-15 points but the latter will rank higher because it has more candidates.  The Pearl Times Rankings Desk ranks bigger classes higher than smaller ones because this publication believes it is more difficult to teach many learners.
