
KAMPALA — The Ministry of Education and Sports, through the Joint Admissions Board (JAB), has released the recommended list of students admitted under the District Quota Government Sponsorship Scheme for the 2026–2027 academic year, with over 800 candidates selected for placement in public universities across Uganda.
The recommendations remain subject to verification by the respective district authorities before the admissions are formally confirmed.

The District Quota Scheme is intended to promote equitable access to higher education by ensuring every district has an opportunity to benefit from government-sponsored university education.
Districts with the highest number of admitted students
The admissions list shows that some districts secured significantly more government-sponsored slots than others.
Among the districts with the highest number of recommended students are: Wakiso – 19 students
Kampala – 15 students; Mukono – 14 students; Jinja – 12 students; Buikwe – 11 students
Mayuge – 10 students; and Mbale – 10 students.
Arua has 9 students, Bugiri – 9 students, Kasese – 9 students, Masaka – 9 students, Bushenyi – 7 students
Hoima – 7 students, Iganga – 7 students, Kabale – 7 students, Kabarole – 7 students, Kamuli – 8 students
Kamwenge – 7 students, Kayunga – 7 students, Lira – 8 students, and Mbarara – 6 students.
The list covers all regions of Uganda, with allocations distributed according to the District Quota policy.

Health sciences, education and business courses dominated this year’s government sponsorship list.
Among the programmes attracting the highest numbers of students are: Bachelor of Arts with Education
Bachelor of Science with Education (Biological), Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Nursing Science
Bachelor of Human Resource Management, Bachelor of Biomedical Laboratory Technology, and Bachelor of Science with Education (Physical).
Others are Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of International Business, Bachelor of Business Computing
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Journalism and Communication, Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering, Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Optometry, Bachelor of Computer Science and Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences.
The recommendations include admissions to Uganda’s public universities, including Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Gulu University, Busitema University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Kabale University, Lira University, Muni University, Soroti University, Mountains of the Moon University and Makerere University Business School.
The recommended candidates will only be admitted after their respective district authorities complete the verification process required under the District Quota Government Sponsorship Scheme.
