The list showing the names of students admitted on government sponsorship under the national merit scheme at Lira University has been released.
The list was released by Academic Registrar Geoffrey Angela and Vice Chancellor (also Chair of Senate) Prof Jasper Ogwal-Okeng.
At least 74 students were given government scholarships given their performance in A-level exams, among other factors that contribute to cutoff points for university admission on government sponsorship.
Students admitted on government sponsorship at Lira University will pursue courses or academic programs such as Bachelor of Public Health, Bachelor of Midwifery Science, Bachelor of Computer Science, as well as Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
Other government students will pursue degrees such as Bachelor of Science with Education (Physical), Bachelor of Science with Education (Agriculture), Bachelor of Science with Education (Economics), Bachelor of Science with Education (Biological), as well as Bachelor of Science in Community Psychology and Psychotherapy.

Every year, Government of Uganda sponsors about 4,000 students to pursue university education at public universities.
But over 70 per cent of those scholarships have been reserved for science-based courses or academic programs.
Apart from Lira University, other public universities include Makerere University, MUBS, Gulu University, Kyambogo University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Muni University, Busitema University, Kabale University, Soroti University and Mountains of the Moon University.
