Kenyan opposition politician Kalonzo Musyoka has warned that Kenya is descending into darkness following the arrest on Monday, September 30, 2024, of youthful political activist Morara Kebaso.
Kebaso, a fast rising politician and activist who is in his late 20s, is the head of Inject Kenya ni Home Movement. Directorate of Criminal Investigation operatives picked Morara Kebaso from his office in Kahawa Sukari.
They also reportedly confiscated his laptop and mobile phones. Kebaso and his Inject Kenya ni Home Movement have been traversing Kenya exposing corruption and stalled projects.
Although he is said to be a young millionaire, Kebaso’s recent activities have largely been funded by Kenyan donors. He had also expressed interest in running for president in 2027.
His lawyer Pareno Solonka said officers had claimed that Morara Kebaso had been arrested on “orders from above.” It was not clear why he was arrested.
But Kenya has in recent months seen abductions and arbitrary arrests as President William Ruto’s government struggles to recover from weeks of Gen Z protests.
Opposition politician Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper Party has warned that Kenya was sinking into darkness and that Ruto’s administration was becoming more dictatorial.
“The kidnappings and abductions by State Security agents are a gross violation of basic human rights. We should all be concerned with the escalation into darkness and dictatorship by the Abductor-in- Chief,” wrote Kalonzo, who served as the 10th Vice President of the Republic of Kenya from 2008 to 2013.
There have also been calls for protests amidst hashtags calling on the Ruto state to free Morara Kebaso. Previous protests saw Ruto threaten to punish ‘treasonous’ rioters but after they persisted, he dissolved his cabinet. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
