Singer and politician Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone, who lost the Kampala lord mayoral race in the 2021 elections, has denied ever crossing from President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s NRM to Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s NUP.
In 2020, Bobi Wine’s NUP denied Jose Chameleone the party’s flag for mayoral race, choosing former Kampala Woman MP Nabilah Naggayi Sempala as its candidate.
FDC candidate won both Chameleone, who stood as an independent, and Naggayi of NUP to retain the lord mayor seat.
Before seeking NUP’s endorsement, Chameleone had joined the Democratic Party (DP) as a mobiliser.
In the 2016 election, he had campaigned for NRM’s Museveni.
In short, Jose Chameleone behaves like a typical chameleon. He has changed political colors at least three time in a few years.
At the weekend, he told Museveni’s brother Toyota Michael Kaguta Nuwagira that he has never left NRM.
“My greatest witness can be Mr. Toyota, my friend, I am still your family, I have never left NRM,” Chameleone said at an event hosted by Toyota.
“If you doubt that, put up your cameras and record me. I am still NRM.”
He admitted he had been irked by some issues with in the NRM, prompting him to stray a little bit.
Toyota Kaguta delivered a Range Rover Model 2021 to Jose Chameleone, who knelt before the president’s brother in praise of his ‘generosity.’
