Inspector General of Government (IGG) Beti Olive Namisango Kamya says her office will investigate the ‘obscene cash bonanza’ in late Speaker Jacob L’Okori Oulanya’s funeral expenses.
On March 29, we reported that government will spend Shs2.5bn on Oulanyah’s burial. (Read Story Here).
When Ugandans complained that the money government was planning to spend on Oulanyah’s burial was too much, a minister in Museveni’s cabinet told them to stop complaining. (Read Story Here).
Government has since cut the figure to about Shs1.8bn, and consequently increased Parliament’s budget to include this figure. (Read Story Here).
Now, IGG Kamya has revealed that as a way of honoring Oulanyah as an anti-corruption crusader, her office will investigate the huge burial budget.
“The Spirit of the departed Jacob Oulanyah must be horrified by the obscene cash bonanza in his funeral expenses, he’d not allow it if he had a choice,” said Kamya.
“The Inspectorate of Government will honor him by taking interest in allegations of impropriety in his funeral expenses.”
