The Independent Electoral Commission (EC) has released the basic requirements for all candidates intending to stand at any elective position in 2021 general elections.
The basic requirements highlighted include; Age, Formal Education level, number of supporters, nomination fee, time of resignation of public officers, nomination dates and nomination venues.
Categories of candidates to undergo this process include; Presidential aspirants, Members of Parliament, District and City chairpersons, Municipality Chairpersons, City Division Chairpersons, Sub- county/Division and Town Council Chairpersons, District/City/Division councillors, Municipality councillors, Municipal Division Councillors and Sub-county councillors.
Nominations of Candidates for Local Governments started yesterday, Monday 21st September and the exercise will end on 1st October 2020
Requirement for the District/City Chairperson is a fee of Ug Shs 200,000, a candidate should be 18 years and above with a minimum of “A” Level or its equivalent.
Requirements for Municipality Chairperson, a fee of 100,000, a candidate should be not less than 30 years and not more than 75 years. No academic qualifications required.
Requirements for City Division Chairperson, a fee of 50,000, not less than 30 years and not more than 75 years, no academic qualifications required.
Requirements for Sub County, Town/Municipality, Division Chairperson, a fee of 50,000, a candidate should be not less than 30 years and not more than 75 years. No academic qualifications required.
