Bugoye Police Station attacked
KASESE — One person has been shot dead after a group of armed attackers raided Bugoye Sub-County Police Station in Kasese District in the early hours of Thursday, October 1, 2026, in an attempted disarmament of an officer on duty.
The attack occurred at about 2am when a group of approximately six people armed with pangas stormed the police station and attempted to seize a firearm from an officer on duty.
The injured attacker fled the scene but was later found dead a short distance from the police station.
The deceased’s identity had not been established by the time of the police statement, while four people had been arrested in connection with the incident.
The suspects have been identified as Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George and Baluku Lenaxi.
Police recovered a panga at the scene, while the body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish further details surrounding the death.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the attack, determine the motive and track down the other suspects who escaped.
Police have appealed to members of the public to provide information that could help identify or locate the fleeing attackers, while urging residents to report any suspicious activities linked to the incident.
The attack has also drawn attention to the security of police facilities, with police reiterating their readiness to respond to attacks on their installations.
