A section of Ugandans is reacting negatively to a proposal by singer Reagan Muhairwe aka Ray G for fellow singer Jose Chameleone Shs1bn homecoming fundraiser.
While a few have welcomed the idea, several others say that Ugandans owe him (Jose Chameleone) nothing.
These have advised Ray G to make use of his account’s password and make the Shs1bn donation to celebrate Jose Chameleone.
They say that Jose Chameleone has been in the music industry for long and has never held a free concert, and that such fundraiser should be for charity reasons with the view of helping the needy and feeding the hungry.
Here are some of the views from Ugandans:
Pick from your own bank account and give him. Ugandans owe him nothing. He doesn’t advocate for their struggles even when in close proximity to power and influence just like the many other artists in this country. – wrote Faizafabz @Faizafabz
1bn for chameleon?? My foot!! With all the serious problems in the country you are thinking of gifting a rich man who has been earning for the last 30years?? 1bn can buy pads for school going girls in 10 district, help the homeless in kla, feed 4babies homes etc… And imagine, rewarding chameleon!! He has had huge monies for so many years, I have never seen him in a serious humanitarian or charitable work for communities. Burnaboy built a hospital, kante built schools, Couldn’t he do a similar thing? Why gift him 1bn? We have needy people – opined Nesta Larry @NestaLarry
How has his singing helped the suffering children deep down in Karamoja? He was being paid for his services and thats enough. Let him rekindle his career like Mike Tyson if he feels he needs to make more money more so he should have financial discipline. – wrote @Abel_K_I
I am still asking that same question, can’t you mobilise us and we raise that 1 billion for charity to support the needy in Mbarara and different parts of western Uganda. Why this hypocrisy and betrayal. We can do better Mr Ray G. – wrote Nsinguza @nsimetac
How about we start with teachers that perhaps taught him in school, then doctors that have tended to his illnesses and perhaps the parents that raised him before we get to him. And finally another billion for ch+ so we thank God that blessed him with that sweet voice and lyrics. – wrote Ivan Kirya @IvanKirya.
Raising 1bn shs for a “legend?” If you’re doing fundraising for a “legend” then be ready to fundraise for the rest in the making. – opined MuKo @Simon_Smarts

Jose Chameleone is expected to return to Uganda this week. It should be remembered that a few months ago, Jose Chameleone spent time in hospital in Kampala before he was flown abroad for better treatment. His son Abba Marcus Mayanja spoke out, revealing the real cause of his father’s health problems, and other secrets on why his mother divorced Chameleone. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
Also, a self-styled prophet claimed to have predicted Jose Chameleone’s sickness and said there would be other disasters in the Mayanja family. (See Details Here).
