A little over 1,500 nurses will miss out on government payroll jobs to work as school nurses after they failed an aptitude test set and conducted by the Education Service Commission (ESC).
A total of 1,996 enrolled nurses had been shortlisted for payroll jobs in secondary schools across the country. But in order to pick the most qualified and suited ones for this job, the shortlistees were invited to sit an aptitude test.
At the end of the ESC-administered test, only about 440 were considered successful and given the green light to proceed to the next stage. The 440 then sat oral interviews the results of which will the basis for the choice of the best who will be given jobs and deployed to schools across the country.
According to the list, over 1,500 enrolled nurses were not fit to go to the next level and will have to try again when the next recruitment is announced in coming years.
The rate of those who did not succeed in going to the oral interviews stage is 78 per cent. In other words, only two in every 10 enrolled nurses who took the aptitude test convinced the ESC recruitment team that they were worthy to continue to the next stage.
