Former UPDF Engineering Brigade Commander Col Godfrey Tukamwakira has reportedly been arrested over corruption related charges.
Col Tukamwakira was reportedly arrested on orders of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the national army, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
It is said that the former UPDF Engineering Brigade commander was arrested after an audit was carried out on the wealth attributed to his name.
The UPDF was yet to officially come out and speak on the reports of former UPDF Engineering Brigade Commander Col Godfrey Tukamwakira’s arrest.
Last week, another former commander was arrested. Colonel James Kasule, who once served as the second Deputy Divisional Commander in the UPDF, was arrested in an operation that followed the kidnapping of a gold dealer in Mubende District.
Kasule landed in trouble after the vehicle registered to him was linked to the alleged kidnap that made him liable to face charges such as armed robbery, kidnapping, extortion, and abuse of office.
But Gen Muhoozi issued orders for the immediate release of Colonel James Kasule.
“I hear that our Intelligence officers arrested Col. Kasule for something. He should immediately be released,” Muhoozi directed.
“Col. Kasule is one of our old fighters. I know him very well. I shall deal with him myself.”
When he took over as CDF, Gen Muhoozi vowed to fight corruption and theft of funds in the UPDF. Most recently, Gen Muhoozi told his father Gen Museveni that UPDF officers stealing money will soon cry, as reported Here.
