First son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has revealed the year he hopes his father Gen Yoweri Museveni will finally retire after ruling Uganda since 1986. As The Pearl Times has been reporting, Gen Muhoozi, also the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), is currently on a tweeting spree.
The youthful general, the only Ugandan soldier that can arguably make controversial posts without facing consequences from the Museveni state, has an idea when his father’s last presidential term will be.
Museveni was bush war lord whose five-year war cost hundreds of thousands of Ugandans their lives between 1981 and 1986. As he ascended to power he diagnosed the problem of Africa as leaders who overstay in power. He promised citizens a fundamental change.
For nearly four decades now, he has suffocated the opposition and earned reelection in polls those competing against him have described as not free and not fair.

As The Pearl Times has reported, Museveni has indicated that he intends to run for reelection in 2026. Museveni smartly paused his son Gen Muhoozi’s political ambitions in March 2024, putting away competition from within. (See Details Here and There).
Now, Gen Muhoozi has indicated that Museveni will have his last term of office from 2026 to 2031. The first son has urged the country to give his father a landslide victory. An 80 per cent election victory, says Muhoozi, would be the best sendoff ever.
“For Mzee’s last term in 2026, I request all Ugandans to give Mzee the best send off ever! Let Mzee get over 80% of the vote for the first time. Target 80%,” wrote Gen Muhoozi.
It should be remembered that months after he was appointed minister, he claimed that he knew the year Museveni will peacefully hand over power. But Museveni rebuked him days later, denying ever discussing his transition and retirement with him. (See Details Here and There).
Gen Muhoozi has also said that he has received reliable information that incoming US president Donald Trump will remove all sanctions against Museveni’s government, as reported Here.
