State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) says it has arrested fraudsters with counterfeit $2m. working with Entebbe Police, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) security and an LC leader, operatives from SH-ACU searched a garage in Entebbe Municipality, where a consignment, suspected to have been smuggled from Entebbe International Airport, was being hidden.
The unit says it received information in May and October 2024 that there was a suspicious consignment held at the Entebbe International Airport.
Operatives from State House Anti-Corruption Unit, UCAA and other agencies would keep their eyes on the consignment.
They would later learn that it was smuggled out of Entebbe International Airport on December 17. “SH-ACU investigation team was tipped off and traced the same in a motor vehicle garage in Entebbe,” the unit said.
On December 27, a search conducted at a garage in Entebbe led SH-ACU and operatives from other agencies led them to 40 large and medium metallic boxes containing suspected counterfeit US dollars, amounting to $2m.
“To hoodwink their would-be targets, the fraudsters added soil in the boxes to exaggerate their weight,” the State House Anti-Corruption Unit noted.
“Besides the fake currency, the team also recovered several bulky, well-wrapped boxes, falsely appearing to contain goods in transit, yet they had useless items, including empty crates of soda and beer.”
State House further noted that at least three suspects have been arrested and operatives were hunting for others who are in hiding.
Meanwhile, State House operatives recently arrested the head of a Church of Uganda school over ghost pupils, as reported Here.
