Fearless Ugandan Writer Spends Night Behind Bars after Undressing First Son Muhoozi Kainerugaba in Bruising Twitter War

PEN International 2021 writer of courage award winner Kakwenza Rukirabashaija spent the night in detention in Kampala after a Twitter war between him and supporters of first son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The ‘Greedy Barbrian’ author shredded Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s potential to be Uganda’s president, annoying his supporters on Twitter.

Following the publication of the tweets, Kakwenza Rukirabashaija said his home in Kisaasi had been surrounded by gunmen seeking to arrest him.

Later, Rukirabashaija’s lawyer Eron Kiiza of Kiiza and Mugisha Advocates claimed that “armed gangs” had broken into Rukirabashaija’s Kisaasi house.

On December 28 evening, Kiiza said Kakwenza Rukirabashaija had been detained at the Bukoto/Naguru Police Facility in charge crime intelligence.

It was not clear what charges had been slapped against Rukirabashaija.
