FAT SALARY: Here’s How Much Sacked Uganda Airlines CEO Jennifer Bamuturaki Has Been Earning Every Month

Jennifer Bamuturaki is exiting her job as Uganda Airlines CEO after President Yoweri Museveni expressed no further interest in keeping her at the helm of the national carrier. In this report, we look at how much the sacked Uganda Airlines CEO Jennifer Bamuturaki has been earning every month.

Despite the controversy surrounding her recruitment for the job, especially her qualification and suitability for the job, Jennifer Bamuturaki sat atop the list of most highly paid government employees.

The sacked CEO of Uganda Airlines, was earning a whopping Shs 87 million (approximately $23,000 USD) every month.

This hefty salary was part of a business implementation plan approved by the cabinet in 2016, despite the airline continuously making losses, as reported by the Auditor General.

Bamuturaki’s salary was among the highest at the airline, with other top officials earning significant amounts:

For example, the Director Maintenance earned Shs 80 million every month; the  Chief Financial Officer Shs 73 million every month, Manager Finance Shs 58 million, pilots Shs 50-60 million, and the Human Resource Manager Shs 43 million.

Yet Jennifer Bamuturaki’s predecessor, Cornwell Muleya, was earning even more – Shs 126 million per month, and was reportedly negotiating for Shs 200 million before being dismissed.

Bamuturaki’s appointment and salary have been under scrutiny, with MPs questioning her qualifications and the recruitment process, which was allegedly halted by a presidential directive.
