Ex-PM Amama Mbabazi Wife Jacqueline Mbabazi Enters Western Uganda Elders’ MP Race

Former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi’s wife Jacqueline Mbabazi has joined the race for the Western Uganda elderly MP.

Jacqueline Mbabazi picked nomination forms from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s Electoral Commission chaired by Dr Tanga Odoi.

Former prime minister Amama Mbabazi accompanied his wife as she picked the nomination forms for the Western Uganda elderly MP position.

Jacqueline Mbabazi is seeking the NRM flag for the position currently held by Joram Ruranga Tibasiimwa.

In 2020, Parliament of Uganda created five parliamentary seats for elderly persons. One of the five seats is occupied by a woman (national female MP for elders).

The elderly MPs represent regions: Central, Eastern, Northern and Western Uganda. They are elected by members of Elders’ Councils from the districts that make up each region.

The national female MP for elders is elected by the National Elders’ Council whose delegates come from all the regions of Uganda.

The Pearl Times can now confirm that Jacqueline Mbabazi wants the Western Uganda elders MP position for herself.

Jacqueline’s husband Mbabazi was once the NRM secretary general and understands the politics within the ruling party.

So, what does Jacqueline Mbabazi want to do differently? Jacqueline Mbabazi says that she is concerned that the laws and policies which are supposed to protect the rights of older persons are not implemented.
She has promised to ensure that there are mechanisms to implement legal and policy provisions meant to protect the elderly in Uganda.
Jacqueline Mbabazi has also promised to ensure that she puts in place savings cooperatives or SACCOs, reasoning that most elderly people are denied bank loans because of their age.
Meanwhile, another former prime minister’s son is contesting for a top NRM job. (See Details Here).
Amama Mbabazi retains his job on the list of Museveni’s most highly paid presidential advisors. (See how much he and others earn every month Here).
