Uganda’s Education Ministry is hiring over 2000 teachers for up to 92 Seed Secondary Schools built under the Uganda Inter-Government Fiscal Transfer Program (UGIFT).
UGIFT is run under the Department of Government Secondary Education at theMinistry of Education and Sports. The over 2000 teaching jobs are open to all eligible candidates.
Applicants should fill Application Form UGIFT/2/2024 in triplicate and Summary Form UGIFT/2/2024, obtainable from the Education Service Commission (ESC) website. The Education Service Commission says only Application Form UGIFT/2/2024 will be accepted, and that the same form will not be available at the receiving centres.
The commission has advised applicants to use the period between December 23, 2024 to January 05, 2025 to organise their documents and Application Forms, which will be submitted to designated receiving centres from Monday, January 06 to Friday January 10, 2025 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm each day.
“Applications should bear the Title of the Post, preferred Teaching subject and the School applied for as well as the Job reference number,” the Education Service Commission further noted. “Applicants should apply for only One post, and only one School. Applying for more than one post and more than one school will lead to disqualification.”
Applicants are also required to attach photocopies of academic certificates and transcripts, national ID card plus a recent passport size photograph on each application form.
“Serving officers MUST route their applications through their Heads of Institution, who should be advised of the closing date to avoid delays.
They should attach photocopies of letters of appointment, and confirmation, and a recent payslip (within a period of at least six (6) months) before the closing date of submission. Applications for serving Officers that are not properly routed will not be considered,” the Education Service Commission explained.
“Applicants should note that the successful candidates will be deployed to the Seed Secondary Schools under UGIFT program for which they have been interviewed and appointed.”
All successful applicants shall be required to serve in the respective ugift seed secondary schools for a period of at least five (5) years. As expected, no application will be accepted after the closing date.
Qualifications and requirements
An education officer will report to the Deputy Headteacher. He will be required to provide formal post primary education to students through teaching and imparting of knowledge, skills, values and assessing intellectual and practical progress.
His or her duties and responsibilities will include: to prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and teaching and learning aids in line with the approved curriculum; conduct lessons and remedial work according to the set timetable.
He or she will also participate in setting, administering and marking internal and external examinations; carry out continuous assessment and evaluation of student performance; and attend general staff meetings, panel, departmental and committee meetings.
He or she will guide and counsel students; keep and maintain records and inventories, participate in co-curricular activities and community activities; ensure discipline in the school, or serve as a classroom teacher and teacher on duty, perform any other duty assigned by the relevant authority.
On qualifications and experience, he or she must have an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in or with Education or an Honours Degree in a relevant teaching subject plus a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognised University/Institution.
He or she must also be registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports; must have at least two teaching subjects or Double main subjects. He or she must also be below 50 years of age for new entrants.
The required skills and competencies include: guidance and counselling skills, pedagogical skills, good communication and interpersonal skills, computer literacy skills, record keeping skills, curriculum comprehension and interpretation, life skills, environment and primary healthcare, public relations skills, safety and precautionary measures, support for special needs students and instructional leadership skills.
For the assistant education officer, he or she will report to the Education Officer.
The assistant education officer will provide formal post primary education to students through teaching and imparting knowledge, skills, values and assessing intellectual and practical progress.
His or her duties and responsibilities will include: to prepare schemes of work and lesson plans, teaching and learning aids in line with approved curriculum; to conduct lessons and remedial work according to the set timetable.
He or she will also be required to participate in setting, administering and marking internal and external examinations; to carry out continuous assessment and evaluation of student performance; to keep and maintain class records and inventories; to guide and Counsel students/learners; and to participate in class meetings.
He or she will serve as classroom teacher and a teacher on duty, participate in co-curricular activities and community activities, and to perform any other duty assigned by the relevant authority.
For qualifications and experience, an assistant education officer should have a minimum of a Diploma in Secondary Education from a recognised Institution; be registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports; have at least two teaching subjects or double main subjects and must be below 50 years of age for new entrants.
The skills and competencies include guidance and counselling skills, pedagogical skills, good communication and interpersonal skills, computer literacy skills, record keeping skills, curriculum comprehension and interpretation, life skills, environment and primary healthcare, public relations skills, safety and precautionary measures, and support for special needs students.
The receiving centre for Cluster One schools – Kotomor Seed S.S in Agago, Labongo Layamo Seed S.S Kitgum, Padibe East Seed SS Lamwo, Latanya Seed SS Pader, Amuru Town Seed SS Amuru, Aracha Seed SS Apac, Adeknino Seed SS Dokolo, Kole Seed SS Kole, Railway Seed SS Lira City, Awel Seed SS Alebtong, Etam Seed School Amolatar and Got Apwoyo Nwoya – is the Directorate of Education Standards (DES) Gulu City.
For Cluster Two Schools – Ndibarema Memorial SS Nsiika Buhweju, Kanyamurera Seed SS Bushenyi, Kitojo Seed SS Mitooma, Rwanyamahembe Seed SS Mbarara, Nyabihoko Seed SS Ntungamo, St Kizito High School Magambo Rubirizi, Ruhija Seed SS Rubanda and Bukinda Seed SS Rukiga – is DES Mbarara City.
The receiving centre for Cluster Three – Nansanga Seed SS Budaka, Mugiti Seed SS Budaka, Sikuda Seed SS Busia, Muhula Seed SS Butaleja, St John’s SS Kidika Kibuku, Akadot Seed SS Pallisa, Iyolwa Seed SS Tororo and St Joseph SopSop Seed SS Tororo – will be DES Mbale City.
Cluster Four schools – Senendet Seed SS Bukwo, Sisiyi Seed School Bulambuli, Kaptanya Seed SS Kapchorwa, Kaptum Seed SS Kween, Mayok Seed SS, Nakatsi Seed SS Bududa, Khabutoola Seed SS Manafwa, Lwasso Seed SS, Namboko Seed SS Namisindwa and St Mary’s Bugitimwa Seed SS Sironko – will also have DES Mbale City as their receiving centre.
