Days after the so-called Elizabeth Kakwanzi Katanywa leaked video made rounds on social media, some people still insist that the youthful politician released her own video to win political popularity in the Western Youth MP race.
The Pearl Times fact-check desk has flagged the so-called leaked video fake and artificial intelligence (AI) generated. (Note that we keep referring to media attributed to Elizabeth Kakwanzi Katanywa as the “so-called leaked video).
Kakwanzi’s camp, too, has dismissed the so-called leaked video as being AI generated.
Yet some have insisted that she is the one in the video.
Such is the danger of deep fakes as generated by artificial intelligence.
Some people may not have the tools and knowledge to scrutinize a video, photo or even an audio for authenticity while others may know the truth but keep vending a particular point of view.
The latter is what the Elizabeth Kakwanzi camp members believe.
“What exactly do we do about people who, without any iota of evidence, keep claiming that the video is not fake?” wondered a member of the Kakwanzi camp, who insisted on anonymity so as to speak freely to The Pearl Times on the matter.
“It’s just laughable. What evidence do they have for the claims that Kakwanzi leaked her own video to attract popularity? The Kakwanzi I know cannot do that. If they think that is the way, why can’t they do the same [release videos] and also become popular?”
The source from the Kakwanzi camp also noted that the Western Youth MP aspirant is still very focused on her dream of representing the young people in the 12th parliament which opens next year, and that she has vowed that will not be shaken nor diverted by “detractors who want to divert her attention and energy to lies.”
An X account associated with the Kakwanzi campaign dismissed the claim that she leaked her own video to gain popularity.
“This goes to all who support Kakwanzi please be informed that everything your seeing its just use of Ai and this won’t stop our mission kindly spread those news as f@ke news,” a statement from the account read.
The Pearl Times understands that some could have misinterpreted its earlier report that fashion model Doreen Kabareebe had said that Elizabeth Kakwanzi Katanywa Doesn’t Need to Campaign because her so called ‘Leaked Video’ is Enough to conclude that she (Kakwanzi) had deliberately released the ‘video’ to gain popularity.
