Schools in Ugandan cities and municipalities normally perform better than those in rural areas. In this cities’ best schools list, The Pearl Times brings you top 100 performing PLE 2024 schools in cities and the capital Kampala.
There has been noise on the grading for rural and urban schools, with speculation rife that Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) on the spot over these hard hitting allegations.
In its report on performance in PLE 2024 examinations, Uneb executive director Dan Odongo made it clear that there was improved performance overall but the number of candidates scoring the coveted top grades had reduced.
Already, top schools are complaining that the number of aggregate fours (four in four subjects) has reduced compared to previous PLE sittings. Aggregate four in four subjects is the best that a candidate can score in primary leaving examinations.
For one to score aggregate four in four, one must score a distinction one (D1) in each of the four subjects — English Language, Integrated Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies — examined at the end of primary cycle.
Away from the complains by top schools — most of which are in cities and municipalities — let us look at the cities’ best schools list 2025, according to results from PLE 2024.
The average aggregate for each school has been computed meaning that the school with a lower average is ranked higher than that with a higher average.
For example, a school with an average aggregate score of seven is ranked higher than that with the average aggregate score of 12.
