Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the leader of main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), has acknowledged that there is a difference in strategy between the political organization and Dr Kizza Besigye, hinting at the fact that the party may not join the protests that the opposition leader recently started.
Bobi Wine has sent a message of solidarity to Dr Besigye, saying President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government is just punishing the four-time presidential candidate for fighting for a just cause.
“Standing in solidarity with you Dr. Kizza Besigye as you approach your fifth day under house arrest; a punishment you’re being subjected to for daring to protest against the skyrocketing cost of living!” Bobi Wine told Besigye in a message of solidarity.
The singer-turned-politician also saluted the veteran opposition leader for the sacrifices he has made in the struggle to liberate Uganda, but acknowledged that NUP and the People Power pressure group have a different approach to the current political and economic situation in the country.
“The differences in our respective political approaches have not blinded us to the honour, fortitude and commitment with which you have gone about resisting oppression,” wrote Bobi Wine.
Last Thursday, security officers arrested Besigye was arrested as he attempted to resume ‘walk-to-work’ protests over the rising commodity prices and skyrocketing cost of living.
Besigye and his People’s Front for Transition (PFT) also called on the Museveni administration to fire all Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and send them to their villages to grow cassava, days after Museveni told Ugandans who cannot afford bread to eat cassava. (Read Story Here).
He is also protesting a rumored plot by Museveni to have his son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba succeed him as President. Museveni recently opened up on Muhoozi’s 2026 presidential bid. (Read Story Here).
