Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) will soon smile to banks after it emerged that their salaries are set to be significantly. RDCs are set to get salary increment starting July 2026 when the new financial year (FY 2026-2027) starts. This big pay raise for RDCs will depend on availability of funds, but President Yoweri Museveni is supportive of the move, The Pearl Times understands.
Also set to have their salaries raised are deputy RDCs and deputy Resident City Commissioners (D-RCCs) as well as assistant RDCs and assistant RCCs.
According to Hajji Yunus Kakande the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President, the government plans to increase the salaries of RDCs from about Shs 2.2 million to between Shs 6 million and Shs 9 million, every month.
When Hajji Kakande appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Central chaired by deputy chairperson Goreth Namugga, MPs wondered how RDCs, RCCs, deputy RDCs, deputy RCCs, assistant RCCs and assistant RDCs were surviving on very little salary.
The MPs on the committee called for the increasing of RDCs salaries as a way of curbing on cases of corruption among these civil servants who represent the president in districts and cities regarding monitoring of government programs.
Kakande noted that Museveni would like each RDC to get Shs9m at the end of every month. But the permanent secretary suggested that each RDC could start getting Shs6m monthly beginning July 2026 depending on the available resource envelope.
He also revealed that even district chairpersons will have their salaries raised in the next financial year.
“He directed that next financial year, they should get at least Shs9m… maybe they will get Shs6m per month,” Kakande noted.
“We are hoping that if all goes as he directed, next financial year 2026-2027, chairperson LCV, RDCs will be getting some good living wage.”
