Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) has alleged that there could be an attempt by Ugandan army chiefs targeting generals from Teso sub region.
Amuriat aka POA, a critic of President Yoweri Museveni and his NRM government, hails from Teso. He claims that the latest attack by first son and UPDF Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba against former deputy CDF Lt Gen Peter Elwelu.
Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has threatened to arrest Lt Gen Elwelu, accusing him of hiding behind his father Museveni, as we have reported Here.
Amuriat observed that had been trouble between Gen Elly Tumwine and Lt Gen Charles Angina, and that it looks like the same case between Gen Muhoozi and Elwelu.
“First it was late Gen. Tumwine vs Gen Angina, now Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba vs Elwelu. Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs – UPDF looking like President Yoweri Museveni family concern, targeting Iteso army officers?” wondered POA.
But Amuriat’s claim was met with criticism. In reaction, University professor and cartoonist Jimmy Spire Ssentongo told POA, “Everyone defends their crook!! Tribalism.”
To which Amuriat responded: “Get serious! Then the ‘crook’ must be tried and given a hearing. This can’t and should never have been done on social media. Dr Kizza Besigye and others are in the court martial over trivialities and the ‘crook’ is here being tried on social media! Really.”
A one Agaba Bukama reminded Amuriat that, “Elwelu murdered our People in Kasese… never forget that.”
And POA replied: “Let him have his day in the court martial. He will probably say who ordered him to do that. Trying him on social media is not being helpful.”
