You Can Apply for Bail: Magistrate Tells Ggaba Children’s Killer

A Ugandan magistrate has told the Ggaba children’s killer he can apply for bail. Christopher Okello Onyum, the man who killed four children at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre last week (and who some chose to legally refer to as a suspect), appeared before the Chief Magistrates’ Court of Makindye were he was formally charged and remanded.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions sanctioned four murder charges against Christoper Okello Onyum regarding the tragic incident at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre.

When he appeared before the Chief Magistrates’ Court of Makindye on April 7, 2026, Christopher Okello Onyum had charges read and explained to him.

Court was presided over by Senior Magistrate Grade I Aidah Nanjala.

According to the charge sheet, state prosecution led by Jonathan Muwaganya and Anna Kiiza, Chief State Attorneys in the ODPP, alleges that Christopher Okello Onyum, on the second day of April 2026, while at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Center in Ggaba Trading Zone of Makindye Division, with malice aforethought, unlawfully caused the death of Eteku Gideon, Keisha Agenorwoth Otim, Sseruyange Ignitius, and Odeke Ryan.

Christopher Okello Onyum was remanded to prison until tomorrow, April 8, 2026, when he will return to court for mention of his case.

Senior Magistrate Grade I Aidah Nanjala told Christopher Okello Onyum that the state will avail him a lawyer to represent him.

“You also have a right to apply for bail but that will be in the High Court, not in this court,” she told the killer (referred to elsewhere as suspect), further telling him that he will for now be going to this lower court for the mention of his case.

The killer was reportedly mentally sick, and one of his relatives has come out to accuse him of killing her son years ago. (See Details Here and There).

It should be remembered that President Museveni has previously opposed bail for suspects in murder and other capital offences, as reported Here and There.
