Ruth Nankabirwa, the minister of energy and mineral development in President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government, faced it rough after supporters of Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) accosted her in Canada.
Nankabirwa was the leader of the delegation at the 2022 Canada NRM convention in Toronto. The former Kiboga District Woman MP represented President Museveni at the convention.
At the convention, delegates discussed the consolidation of the NRM Government achievements in the sectors of social, political and economic as well as the role played by Ugandans in the diaspora.
As she arrived at the convention venue, Nankabirwa was ambushed by protesters donning NUP colors and Bobi Wine’s posters. The protesters accused Nankabirwa of working with Museveni, a man they referred to as a dictator.
They claimed that they had run away from Uganda due to the tough economic and political situation.
The protesters further argued that Nankabirwa and other members of the delegation attending the Canada Convention were coming to chew tax payers’ money instead of using the same funds to improve the way of life for millions of Ugandans back home and doing something to solve the issue of high prices of basic commodities.
They chanted the NUP ‘People Power, Our Power’ slogan and blocked Nankabirwa from addressing them
Minister Nankabirwa was the only NRM delegate who faced it rough at the Canada Convention. Bobi Wine’s NUP supporters also confronted events promoter Balaam. (Read Story and watch Video Here).
